Learning about a new development environment is often a daunting task. When you move away from familiar tools towards new ones, the new tools often seem awkward compared to your old favorites. You might become frustrated at the perceived lack of productivity, because you're not sure how to complete some simple task; or you might be distracted by trying to find the most efficient way to do the job.

Some people call this attachment to a tool the 'baby duck' syndrome. You are at ease with the first compiler, utility, editor or development method that you learned, just as the newborn duckling adopts the first duck that it sees as its mother. Instead of traumatically tearing you away from your mother compiler as you learn about Visual C++, I hope to show you that this new partner has many of the old, familiar and comfortable traits, as well as a lot of exciting new features designed to make your life easier.
